Prostate Cancer

As gay men our anuses is very important.It should be protected and looked after so we can enjoy the pleasures it offers.This is why it is important to know the “ins and outs” of our anus.Let’s start off with prostate cancer.

One of the most common types of cancer among ALL men is prostate cancer. It usually occurs in men older than 50. African American men are more likely to than White men to develop prostate cancer and are more than twice as likely to die from it. A person can be at additional risk if they have had one or more close relatives with prostate cancer.

Your doctor should screen you for prostate cancer every year starting when you are 50.If you are at high risk for prostate cancer (if you are African American or have a father or brother who as prostate cancer at a young age) you should begin having these tests at 45.

Depression

Symptoms of depression may include the following:

  • difficulty concentrating, remembering details, and making decisions
  • fatigue and decreased energy
  • feelings of guilt, worthlessness, and/or helplessness
  • feelings of hopelessness and/or pessimism
  • insomnia, early-morning wakefulness, or excessive sleeping
  • irritability, restlessness
  • loss of interest in activities or hobbies once pleasurable, including sex
  • overeating or appetite loss
  • persistent aches or pains, headaches, cramps, or digestive problems that do not ease even with treatment
  • persistent sad, anxious, or "empty" feelings
  • thoughts of suicide, suicide attempts
  • Roughly one in five gay men experience symptoms of depression according to a study conducted by the New York based Medius Institute for Gay Men’s Health (http://www.mediusinstitute.org/depression.htm).

    Anal Health

    Anal sex involves stimulation of the anus and can be done manually, orally or by engaging in anal sex. Anal penetration can be pleasurable but can lead to discomfort if not performed properly. The sphincter, or the muscle on the outer rectum tends to tighten when stimulated, this means that any attempts at engaging in anal insertion of the penis, or finger can be very uncomfortable. Forced entry into the anus can lead to injury. The use of lubricants helps the muscle relax and dilate with manual stimulation.

    • Secondhand smoke contains at least 250 chemicals known to be toxic, including more than 50 that can cause cancer.¹

    Smokeless Tobacco

    The two main types of smokeless tobacco in the United States are chewing tobacco and snuff.1,2 Chewing tobacco comes in the form of loose leaf, plug, or twist.1,2 Snuff is finely ground tobacco that can be dry, moist, or in sachets (tea bag-like pouches).2 Although some forms of snuff can be used by sniffing or inhaling into the nose,2 most smokeless tobacco users place the product in their cheek or between their gum and cheek.3 Users then suck on the tobacco and spit out the tobacco juices, which is why smokeless tobacco is often referred to as spit or spitting tobacco.3 Smokeless tobacco is a significant health risk and is not a safe substitute for smoking cigarettes.4
